Ice Ice Baby!

My husband is what can only be described as a sports fanatic. It doesn't matter what season it is, he's watching some kind of sport. Not only is he watching it, he knows ALL there is to know about it. It's really quite amazing the amount of knowledge he has about everything sports-related. If there was a "PH.d of Sports", he'd have one.

Well, football just ended (for the Giants, it ended a while ago), and it's not yet time for Yankees baseball, so he's watching his hockey. He's an Islanders fan, but they don't seem to be doing so well this season.

Now, I'm not into sports as much as Daryl is (I don't know anyone who is MORE into sports than he is), but I do enjoy watching the weekly football games, and the daily baseball games on television. If given the chance, I prefer to watch them live, but we can't get home to go to a Giants or Yankee game too often, so that's left to TV, but we try to find the next best thing here in VA. In the summer we go to a few Norfolk Tides games. They're they AAA farm team for the Baltimore Orioles. They put on a good game, and if we can manage it, we try to see them play the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees (the AAA farm team of, you guessed it, our NYY). There's no real football close to here (we'll just have to wait until our kids become high school/college football stars) but there is hockey.

The Norfolk Admirals are the minor league hockey team in the area, an affiliate of the Tampa Bay Lightning. This year, they're actually GOOD! Last year, they were ranked last in their division, but not this year! We really do enjoy going to see the Admirals live and in person. Up until last year, I had never been to a hockey game, but now that I've been a few times, I'm totally hooked (but dude, it's cold in there)! This combined with my devout passion for the Yankees, has my husband thrilled. Here are a few pictures from our 2nd row seats of our most recent game on Saturday against the Syracuse Crunch (sounds like a bad cereal, doesn't it?)!

Both the Admirals games and the Tides game tickets are pretty inexpensive, especially if you have a military ID, a decent discount is given. They both also do a Military Appreciation Night where tickets are discounted even more. If you live in the area, I highly recommend attending some of the games of these local sports teams, you won't regret it!
